Pictures, pictures, pictures

Posted in It's All About Me, Out And About, Random Photo Post on August 31st, 2008

Seems like that’s all I post on this blog anymore. And that’s fine with me. Less typing means more time before the carpal tunnel syndrome paralyzes my wrists.

First, here’s one from today:

I hadn’t done a Discovery Walk in a while, so today I jetted up to Lawrence subway station and took the Northern Ravines and Gardens walk. Pics are on Flickr.

And in other photo news, someone has published some of my photos! A local realtor had his site redone using some of my pics. Rather than post links again (because I’m lazy and also because I want to drive traffic to my other site), check out the pics here.

Oh, and in non photo-related news, I’ve signed up for a couple of creative writing courses at George Brown College that get started in a couple of weeks. I’ve done little more than write other people’s words for years (when I’m not cranking out lousy NaNoWriMo novels), and the creative juices need a bit of a squeeze to get flowing again. I want to keep writing, but I’m very, very tired of the crap I’ve been writing for the last few years. I’d be very happy to never conduct another interview again. I didn’t get into writing because I like talking to people.

Happy birthday to me!

Yeah, I know my birthday is several months away, but I already bought myself a present: tickets to see Emm Gryner at the Glen Gould Studio on February 7th. Haven’t seen Emm play live in years, and the Glen Gould Studio is a proper venue for her kind of music, not just some bar with a rented sound system slapped together. It’ll also be my first time seeing an actual event in a venue that I’ve heard so much about. Should be fun.

Getting Creative

Posted in It's All About Me on August 25th, 2008

At the beginning of this year, I announced that I was taking a sabbatical from writing articles for magazines and web sites in order to “take my writing in a new direction.” Well, now that the year is almost over, I’ve finally taken the first step into fulfilling that promise. I just signed up for a creative writing course at George Brown College. It’s been a long time since I did any structured creative writing. Everything I’ve been doing for a whole lot of years involved transcribing what other people have said, and then editing that transcript. I’ve gotta get the ol’ right-brain neurons firing again.

The course is also the first course in a couple of certificate programs that look interesting: story writing and novel writing. We’ll see how things go.

Plans to complete the degree are once again on hold, purely for financial reasons. When summer began, I was prepared to blow money without thinking about it and paying for it later. After a summer of golf and cycling and doing some touristy stuff and never eating at home, the time to pay is at hand. My credit card companies are going to love me.

My great granddad and his faithful hound

Well, I got up early today but didn’t go outside, do any cleaning or buy any food. I was scanning old photos, and didn’t realize how fast the time was zipping by.

But at least I accomplished something. I got my grandma’s photo album all scanned and uploaded. Above is a sample of what I’ve been looking at all day. Fun stuff.

Photobooth Fun

Looking cooler than I am isn’t that tough, really.
