So happy to be here…

Posted in Random Photo Post on August 31st, 2007

This blog has been really lacking for content since I went to the bother of importing all of my own Livejournal posts, so I decided that I’m going to add some regular features just to keep new content flowing. In that spirit, here is your first installment of…

Random Photo Friday!!

Ah, Cobourg. Working in this crappy little cubicle and staying at the worst hotel in history was such a downer after the frozen fun of Sudbury.

Incidentally, I have some good pics of my co-conspirator from the days of thumbing my nose at the labour unions (now I’m in one… I feel so dirty). With his permission, I may post one once in a while as part of RPF. Nothing threatening to a career in politics, I assure you.

Please forgive me

Sorry about not keeping the new blog as updated as I, or you, would like. Currently my at-home computer time is spent getting my “professional” web site up and running. The goal is to have all of my published articles (the ones I still have copies of, anyway) entered into the old Wordpress database on that site. I’ve got to write the “about me” pages at some point, and get my contact info up there at some point as well.

I’ve got 43 articles posted up there now. Only about 65 to go.

In the meantime, feel free to check out my latest Torontoist article.

Spam, spam, bacon and spam…

Posted in Explanatory Entries on August 6th, 2007

Ugh.  I just got my first spam comment on this blog.  Now I remember why I set my comments on my LiveJournal account to “LiveJournal Members Only.”  Fucking spam loser douchebags.

I believe WordPress will allow me to set up a membership system on this blog.  Nothing fancy, and not part of some omipresent marketing database, just something to keep the spammers from spamming my comments.  I’m not gonna do that yet, but I wanted my faithful blog readers to know that there are some dipshits out there that might ruin things for everyone.

Medical Marvels

Posted in Cat Chronicles on August 5th, 2007

It’s a big day for the kitty today. Bridget, the cat with the level-6 heart murmur that wasn’t supposed to live for a year, just graduated from kitten food to adult cat food.

I was close to kicking the cat out on her keester earlier this week. She’s been a destructive little brat from day one, but her shenanigans have increased over the last few weeks. The biggest stress inducer is the fact that I live in a one-room apartment and don’t have anywhere to lock thing like my computer away from prying claws.

I couldn’t find anyone to take Destructo the Wonder Kitten right away, but then I remembered the little invention called the computer armoire. I’m gonna get one of those so that I can have a work area that’s safe from kitty and her tendency to knock shit off of desks. Got a line on a used one that I’m gonna take a look at on Monday.

Aren’t you glad you checked the blog today?

Beat the Heat Cheap

Sometimes the ideas on the Internet amaze me. Here are some plans for a homemade air conditioner.

Gotta love those engineering students.

Spare some change?

Posted in This Stupid City on August 2nd, 2007

It’s no wonder Toronto city councilors are so reticent to pass anti-panhandling bylaws. It would hinder their own activities to fund the city. Check out this article. I had no idea that Toronto got so much money from the surrounding municipalities to fund programs and such. Or that even outsourced services get paid at city-worker wages. Ridiculous.

Everybody else knows the City of Toronto needs to solve its own problems and stop trying to hit everyone else up for money. What the hell is wrong with the elected idiots?

A Trip Down Memory Rail

Posted in I feel old... on August 1st, 2007

This Torontoist story isn’t mine, but it is a great read for those of us that remember taking the Toronto Zoo monorail.  I can’t believe it’s been 13 years since they shut it down.  I’m pretty sure it was still running last time I went to the zoo.

That’d be something to do for a day out in the city.  Anybody wanna join me sometime?
