What’s an anagram for “bitch slap?”

Posted in Old Livejournal Archives on February 28th, 2006

That TTC map I linked to a couple of entries ago? It’s gone. Apparently the good folks at the TTC sent a cease-and-desist order to the guy who created it. Read about it here.

I’ll spare the rant on fair use and how so many trademark holders overstep their bounds. There are plenty of those out there. For now, here’s the new map. The stop names are still kind of funny, but the whole project seems to have lost its edge. I wish I had saved a copy of the original.

The Spirit of (Corporate) Radio

Posted in Old Livejournal Archives on February 27th, 2006

This story is a couple of years old now, but I just came across it and thought it was funny. It reminded me both of something out of WKRP and why I stopped listening to the radio in the first place. There’s no fun, to spontaneity, no love of music, merely a myopic eye on demographics and “brand focus.”

I guess the managers at Jack FM have protected themselves from any such problems by getting rid of all the DJs. This begs the question: who are the “we” in “playing what we want?”

house key
You’re a spare house key under the mat. Few people

know you’re there, but those who do recognize

your worth, especially when they get

themselves in trouble. You might want to be a

little more noticable, but not everyone

should know you’re there.

What sort of key are you and what do you unlock?

Anagrams, anyone?

This amused me. Dozens of band names just waiting to be pilfered. :)

No Heavy Metal Love tonight…

This retarded flu won’t go away, which means no Helix with openers Scarlet Sins for me tonight.

Ass.

However, since I am now out of debt, I can pursue my dream of becoming a pinmonkey at a local bowling alley and…

Wait… that was Homer Simpson’s dream. Well, it’s as good a dream as any. I can shine my head in the Shine-o Ball-o.

Damn, I need sleep.

Behold the debtless man!

I have slain yon Plastic Monsters and tamed the Demon of Finance!

For you “normal” folk out there, that means I have just made the last payment on what was once a rather substantial credit card debt. I have now finally and officially paid for every booze I’m ever drinked. And it only took 2 years of virtual teetotalling to do it.

Too bad I’m too sick today to fully enjoy my victory. *koff*

But it does mean that the Hunt for New Apartment can begin. The only thing this Hobbit-hole of mine was good for was cheap rent, and that has served its purpose. Time to move up in the world.

Yeah, okay. I’ll buy the “high” cynicism.

Your Five Variable Love Profile

Propensity for Monogamy:

Your propensity for monogamy is medium.
In general, you prefer to have only one love interest.
But it’s hard for you to stay devoted for too long!
There’s too much eye candy to keep you from wandering.

Experience Level:

Your experience level is medium.
You probably have had a couple significant loves.
And you may have even had your heart broken.
But you haven’t really dated a wide variety of people.

Dominance:

Your dominance is low.
This doesn’t mean you’re a doormat, just balanced.
You know a relationship is not about getting your way.
And you love to give your sweetie a lot of freedom.

Cynicism:

Your cynicism is high.
Sure you believe in love, but you know it doesn’t come easily.
You scoff at “love at first site” and “soumates.”
You rather take the real thing, as unglamorous as it is.

Independence:

Your independence is medium.
In relationships, you need both “me time” and “we time.”
You usually find it easy to be part of a couple.
But occasionally you start to feel a little smothered.

Bought myself a few B-day presents.

I got a copy of Bass Guitar for Dummies because I WANNA BE SCOOTER!! Also because the last bass book I got was “conveniently” shaped like a CD. Only problem is, the damn thing doesn’t stay open, and that pisses me off. So old book out, Dummies in.

I got a DVD copy of the film PUNK: Attitude because… well, because it just happened to be there and I’ve been listening to a lot of vintage Replacements lately so a punk documentary appealed to me at the time. I’ll let you know how it is after I watch it.

And I picked up The Last Light of the Sun by Guy Gavriel Kay. It’s been a while since I spent time with a good novel, and Kay is one of my favouite authors.

Other than that, I had lunch (bison burger with Stilton cheese) at The Irish Embassy (the pub, not the official government building) on a friend’s corporate expense account (shoulda got shitfaced) and spent the rest of the day just chillin’ out. Back to work tomorrow, a little older and not a damn bit wiser.

Happy Birthday To Me.

I took the day off work today to sort of ease into this “being 35″ thing. No big plans, just lunch with one friend, dinner with another, then some quality time at home with my cat while I try to figure out what the hell I’m going to do with the other half of my life.

For no reason at all…
